Out of all the great ways to loosen yourself up, dancing peaks at number one. And with a pandemic dampening our spirits, now’s the perfect time to free your mind and just live a little!
The great thing is it takes more than a pandemic to kill the music scene! Artists are still dishing out their talents in the form of albums for your enjoyment. And I’ve sourced some of the boppiest albums that you should add to your library. Or your wishlist…
You may know some, but I doubt you know all of them. So plug your ears up and get ready to sample some bop!
Chromatica by Lady Gaga
There was a slight fear with this one, that Lady Gaga was going to hold it back until the pandemic was over. But we’re damn glad she didn’t! We needed this, mostly for our sanities. It’s a theatrical album, best listened from start to finish. Gaga says this album perfectly encapsulates the stories of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Best track: Chromatica II + 911
Quarantine Queen by Todrick Hall
American Idol has brought out some great talent. Kelly Clarkson is one of them! And another is Todrick Hall, who has brought us this quaint collection of melodies that are perfect for the current moment we’re living in. From paying the rent to Tiger King. The big hit is Mask, Gloves, Soap, Scrubs, which is a parody on his own previous hit Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels.
Best track: Meow (feat. Rhea Litre)
Goody Bag EP by Netta
Eurovision fans will remember Netta Barzalia for her winning song TOY. But now, the roaring beauty is back. And look, it’s not quite a full-on album, but it’s enough to hope for more. Like how can you not after watching Ricki Lake! She is the master of weird and wonderful. And she even adds in a ballad with Cuckoo.
Best track: Bassa Sababa
Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa
Ah Dua Lipa, the queen of club music. She never hesitated to drop this album, knowing that she wouldn’t be able to go on tour and make money. It’s got all you could ask for in a pop album: dancy tunes, infectious beats and quirky lyrics. She even threw in a (sort of) ballad to balance it all out.
Best track: Break My Heart
CALM by 5 Seconds of Summer
It’s not an album that’ll get your raving in the lounge room, but it sure will make your feet tap. And sometimes that’s all you want. A hip sway and a simple groove. 5 Seconds of Summer brings 70s nostalgia and 80s pop to this eclectic album that oozes with life lessons, sprinkled with catchy notes.
Best track: No Shame
Smile by Katy Perry
Katy Perry is seemingly dancing to her own beat, lapping up her own unique spin on pop music. Now she plays the clown, teaching us all to smile – even during the bad times. So far, only four tunes have been released, including the title song smile which is both weird and wonderful. And there’s only a month to go until it’s released!
Best track (for now): Daisies
DISCO by Kylie Minogue
It hasn’t been released yet, but after this teaser of a single, we’re all anxious for it. Disco is back baby, with a brand new face! And to anyone who’s doubting whether this is actually disco, you obviously haven’t immersed themselves in the true spirits of 80s club anthems. All hail Kylie, queen of disco!
Best track (for now): Say Something
